MY SON AND I WENT TO SEE THE WOMAN KING

I told my son that I would like for him to go to the movies with me. He asked what I wanted to see and I told him Woman King. I could see his brain just doing all kinds of flips. I already knew where he was going before he opened his month. There was an eye roll. I was prepared.

He had not heard of the movie. I quickly explained. I also made a point of saying, Viola Davis is the lead and she is one of the producers. I told him about some of the interviews. I enjoyed the interviews with Viola Davis and others regarding this film. Viola Davis always comes across straight-forward and real. He knows who she is and well aware of her amazing work. My son being the thinker that he is, I also explained a little bit about what inspired the movie and what it was based on. I also said this is NOT a documentary. You already know if you wish to learn more and outside of the creative realm, you have to do your own research. He did. LOL While we were having our conversation, he was online looking up what he could before saying he would roll with his mother to the movies on a Saturday, when he could be doing something else.

Well, my son who is one of the biggest critics I know truly enjoyed the film. He told me everything he liked about it, what he did not (2 minor things) and what he would have liked to have seen more of. However, we know you can only do so much in 2 hours. He said it was one of the best movies he has seen in a very long time.

This movie is right on time for many reasons. If people would get out of their heads and not worry about why the lead is a female, not worry about propaganda, what is not 100% historically factual or any other negative thing they can think of before even SEEING the film people could save themselves some stress and others the irritation. They would be able to be excited about something and go have an inspirational time without some of the usual nonsense. It is simple. The movie has impressive actors, from the lead to the supporting actors to the extras. The main story and the intertwining stories were presented in an amazing way. The action sequences were awesome. I love action movies, so I am pleased that the choreography was well done and realistic. There is something in this film that many people can relate to. There is an abundance of important messages or life lessons in the film, no matter your age or gender. As with any film, you go in with an open mind. You don't know what you are going to see until you see it, until you experience it yourself. This films is also an opportunity to dig a little deeper in your free time into some history. Once again, this is not something that was shared in school. This is a movie, also meant to entertain, so it is history mixed in with creativity/fantasy. But it gives you enough to want to learn more.

I have more to share and there are aspects I am choosing to refrain from writing about, right now. I am deliberately being vague about the movie at this time, so that I am not providing spoilers and I want to take my time and do it justice. I will write again after a few weeks. No matter who you are and where you come from, you should have something stirred up in your soul after viewing this movie.
